MY FIRST BIG TRADITIONAL PIECE IN SUCH A LONG TIME!

This was a birthday present for ~moorey12. Admittedly, it was late. A whole year late. Don't judge me.

Either way, I enjoyed this , apart from when it wasn't going well! I haven't done a portrait like this in a while, and somehow I think my approach to this style has changed. It's bolder, and braver. I'm not sure if that has had impact on the overall visual of the piece - what do you think? Compared to my earlier pencil work such as:

Anyway, I was quite proud of it.

The only part that gave me real trouble was the bracelets... and funnily enough, the large patches of very, very faint tone such as on her arms. So hard to capture without just making it look all smudgy.

I also, as is a bit of a habit by now, more or less made up the hair. Maybe I should work on that.
I do try to follow the reference picture, but once I've sketched out the rough clumps of hair and the way they fall, I just go crazy and make it up as I go along. Maybe it works better that way, I don't know. But the hair always comes out looking way more luxurious than in the reference. It looks like a shampoo advert...

P.S - I also made a little watercolour of Winnie-The-Pooh for a friend, but I wasn't able to scan that before mounting it, framing it and giving it away.
