#StaffAppreciation is happy to announce the first deviantART Staff Appreciation Week-related contest of 2012! 
 The deviantART Staff Appreciation Week (dASAW) kicked off with a bang in its first year (2011) and the response was overwhelming. Our goal is to promote positive community relations between deviants. Emote Bookmark Project (20)A couple of days i uploaded a Emote Bookmark of my OC Syn and the response to it has been far more positive than i ever thought it would be. i've had numerous people mention how they have or want to make one themselves and people have really taken up the idea. So after talking to a few fellow emoticonists, i decided i'd make a project out of these bookmarks.

How do i make one?
Its actually really simple and straight forward to make one yourself. There are a couple of different ways to make the base of the bookmark, each of which are easy to complete even for the less paper-craft experienced deviant. The tutorial can be found on this page, so check it out:

The goal of this project is to  show that we fully support the next emoticon community volunteer, no matter who it will be.  
All you have to do is to create an Emoticon that shows what the next cv could need,  a bucket full of love or something completely different ;D
if you want to you could display the emote version of the next emote cv as a black emote with a questionmark and as soon as we know who the next emote cv will be, we change it to his/her oc.

I originally made my first OCtopi avatar back in March 2012 and over the past few months my commitment to commissions has slowly decreased and I've decided it it now time to officially close commissions.

The original purpose of the OCtopi commissions was to raise money for a new super group status for our community group #Emotication. Having bought 2 additional years, the remainder points have been stored up in a community fund, known as 'The OCtopi Fund'. These points have been put towards several community events including the monthly #WeEmote chat events.

So. I'm redecorating my room.
I only have one nice poster and a couple of prints to put up on my wall, so I decided that I'd really like a new poster... but not just any ol' poster. ;D And this is where you guys come in! :dummy:



This contest is to design a poster of A3 size and using any medium which I can get printed and framed in order to put up on my wall.

The initial deadline will be July 24th. This may be extended, depending on how things are looking at that time.

Listen up! Important things for you to consider...



Your entry MUST:



  • Be an image of some description (hopefully that goes without saying).

  • Be at least A3 (300ppi) - 3508x4960 pixels (pieces that aren't quite the correct aspect ratio may need to have the edges cropped slighty).

  • Be all your own original work.

  • Be limited to one entry per entrant.

  • Not contain any inappropriate content, such as nudity, gore, swearing or any other offensive language.



Your entry COULD:



  • Be portrait or landscape.

  • Be a collaborative effort, as long as you decide how prizes will be split.

  • Represent me or my interests (see below). Please note that following one or more of those suggestions is entirely optional.

  • Be a digital drawing/painting/vector etc.

  • Be a traditional drawing/painting/print etc.

  • Be a collage or montage.

  • Be a photo.

  • Be a piece of typography.

  • Be a scaled-up pixel piece.

  • ...Be absolutely any other visual form you can think of! Go wild! :la:



Finally, some suggestions:


I appreciate that making something that I'll like is easier if you know me. So for those of you who don't, or those of you who are stuck for ideas, here are a couple of things that I like which you could use for inspiration if you so wish. :meow:

  • ALL THE MUSIC. But Keane is my all-time favourite band, and 'Somewhere Only We Know' is my all-time favourite song.

  • Anything remotely cutesy.

  • Puns. I may groan when people make them, but they do make me laugh. :giggle:

  • Nature - mountains and rivers in particular.

  • Doctor Who - preferably with David Tennant! <3

  • Games such as Professor Layton, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart and Plants VS Zombies.

  • Reading, drawing, painting and general crafty-ness.

  • Anything with the colours green, blue or indigo.

  • ...Unique and interesting approaches, so try to think outside the box. ;D
