Sketch Journal

Hi everyone! Happy 2013! :happybounce:

I'm sure most of you have got some kind of resolution this year (or maybe you've broken it already? ;P). One of mine is to spend more time on my art, and try to create more traditional stuff because I've really missed it. :noes: I often get so bogged down in thinking of a really great concept that I forget to get any creating done, and in the past just sketching random stuff to keep myself arting has worked quite well. So while I was experimenting with bookbinding, I made myself this book!

I call it a sketch journal but it's just a normal sketchbook apart from the fact that I aim to create an entry fairly regularly so my traditional art doesn't get too rusty. So it's sort of like a journal too. :B

The book is A5 size, contains Daler Rowney fine grain sketching paper (100% recycled!), and the covers are made from the back board of the sketch pad I got the paper from. It's coptic stitch bound with double-threaded embroidery thread for added durability and strength - I've found that single-threaded binding in a book of this size make it feel a bit flimsy. I covered the spine of each signature in some coloured paper on a whim, but I think it has quite a cool effect. There's also a pocket on the back page covered in the same paper. And don't forget the bookmark ribbon! :dummy:

Overall, this is the book I'm most proud of so far. :aww: Please tell me what you think!

I hope you're all having a lovely new year so far.

That's a really great idea. I approve anything that gets the motivation going. How's it been working out so far for you? Pretty good? I've tried something similarly, but I just mostly find myself doodling in it. Which isn't the true purpose, but anything goes to prevent yourself from getting rusty right? Hope the new year has treated you kindly so far. :D
